When I first started this blog, I did it because all our family and so many of our friends lived far, far away, and it was a way for them to know our girls. But as time has gone by, I have realized that it’s a written history of their childhood at the same time. There is no way for any parent to remember all the funny things and stages of development their kids go through, and this blog is a way for the girls to look back when they are older and learn about themselves.
With that being said, I hope to do more posts like this one where I “record” the things they say or do – at their current age – that either totally crack me up, melt my heart, or leave me shaking my head.

***We have hit the point where Madelyn can somewhat keep up with Big Sister Kate. The feeling a parent has when they witness their kids playing together is such an awesome one, and like nothing else. I love, love, LOVE watching the girls interact! Kate likes to lead the way with their pretend play, but at the same time, little Maddie is the one teaching her big sister all about princesses and dress-up! Kate NEVER cared to dress up before Maddie came along. And for months Maddie has dug out fairy wings, tutus, dresses and sparkle shoes, and brought them to me to put on her. Now, that’s all the rage for Kate. Pretty funny when a 1 year old gets a 4 year old interested in something new.
***I love how affectionate they are to each other, and how affectionate Maddie is in general. She gives kisses all day long! Also, it melts my heart to hear Kate say things like, “I want my baby sister to wake up so we can play together!” That doesn’t mean there is always a sisterly love fest, though. Kate loves to tattle on Maddie, and constantly hides her favorites toys from her little sister. Kate’s learning a bit about karma, though, because sometimes her hiding places are too good, and she ends up hiding a beloved toy from herself!
***I love when “Soul Sister” by Train or “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Pease comes on the radio and Kate says, “Mommy, this is one of our songs!”
***It totally cracks me up every time Madelyn gives the stink eye and shakes her head “no”.
***It cracks me up that Maddie has figured out how to replicate Kate’s forced, phony laugh, and the two will fake laugh back and forth to each other, even smacking their hands down on the table to prove how hysterical something is.
***It cracks me up when Kate tells me she wants a pet, and I remind her that she already has one. Then she rethinks her request and says she wants 2 pets, with one of them being a “teeny tiny dog”.
***It melts my heart to see how eager Kate is to teach her little sister things, but is still constantly reminding Maddie of the things she can’t do because she’s a baby and babies can’t do big kid things.
