A couple weekends ago, I had some errands to do and left after the girls were in bed for naps. Craig was working in his office and had the monitors with him so he knew when they each woke up.
We keep his office stocked with overflow toys (from the main floor) because there are always at least a few times each week that one or both of the girls spend some time up there. One of the office toys happens to be a wooden xylophone.
At some point after naps that day, Maddie and Kate were both playing near the xylophone. Madelyn had the grand idea to grab a xylophone mallet – which also is wooden - and smack Kate on the head. Kate yelled out in pain and immediately told Daddy what Maddie had done. Craig told Maddie to quit hitting her sister in the head.
What did Miss Madelyn Rose do?
NOT follow Daddy’s recommendation, that’s for sure!
When Craig was done yelling at her, she turned back towards Kate and whacked her on the head again!
At that point, both wooden mallets were removed from the play area.
If that was Kate, she would have cowered in fear that some action of hers got the notice of an adult. She gets horribly embarassed, and it truly eats at her to get in trouble for misbehavior. Maddie, on the other hand, couldn’t care less.
The list of their personality differences continues to grow. But one thing’s for sure: Craig and I have known for quite a while that Maddie’s going to be the one to watch as she gets older. She’s definitely the sneaky troublemaker of the two.
