Parenting Firsts: Recitals

This past year has been full of parenting “firsts” for Craig and me…

-This was our first year having a kid in school.

-This was our first year cheering on our child from the soccer field sidelines.

-This was also the first year we had to find our seats in a dark auditorium to watch, with bated breath, our very first recital.

Kate has been taking a tumbling class since August, and Saturday was their show!

The pictures and video below are all from the dress rehearsal.  Video was not allowed the day of the recital, and I didn’t want to pay $28 for the recital DVD when Kate was in 1 song that lasted for less than 3 minutes.

Kate’s class performed a tumbling routine to the song, “Heigh Ho”, a la Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs.

These photos are of her and her little friend, Miss A. In the photo below, the girls were supposed to be trying to touch their feet to the back of their heads.  Miss A was doing as she should, but clearly, Kate decided she’d rather enjoy the view from the stage.

Here they are, kicking away!

Here is a video clip from the show, and it’s the part of their routine following the kicking of their feet.  Each girl takes a turn doing cartwheels.  This particular part made me extremely proud because Kate was never able to do cartwheels during class.

I guess she was saving it for the limelight.

You can hear me yelling out, but you have NO idea what it felt like for me inside!  I was worried she gave it all she had for the rehearsal, and what would the recital bring.

But she did not disappoint.

In fact, she brought her A game.

She ROCKED those cartwheels and THE.CROWD.WENT.WILD!!!

Seriously, if I had known, it would have been worth $28 just to go back and hear that entire auditorium cheer for my baby!

Here’s a picture of her and me, with her after-recital-flowers, back at home.

Way to go Kate! She is adorable and cograts on surving your first recital, Liz!

As a side note, my sister’s first dance recital routine was also to “Heigh Ho” from Snow White. But it was the 80′s and there were lots of sequins. ;)

Adorable!! Enjoy all of those “firsts”….there’s nothing like watching your kids move out into the world and try new things. Mine are older, but we are still experiencing “firsts”……some of them are just scary, though, and not so cute!
