I’m back for another Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop!
This week’s chosen prompt…
Prompt #1: The Love List. Write a list of 50 things you look for in a man.
Because Craig and I have been together for 11 years and married for almost 9, it’s been a rather long time since I’ve “looked for” a man. So this list will be more about him specifically, and in no particular order.
The Schmoopie/Serious Stuff
- Good sense of humor
- Realistic sense of self
- Naturally driven
- Has goals for the future
- Finds me attractive even though I never wear make-up nor do my hair
- Values my opinion
- Considers the money he makes “ours” and not “his”, even though I haven’t earned a dime in the past 4.5 years
- Loves to travel
- Loves to eat out
- Loves to lie on the sofa and watch TV with me at the end of the day
- Loves my laugh
- “Gets” me
- Is secure and confident in himself and us (I’m not into clingy, needy people, in general)
- Funny
- Appreciates sarcasm
- Understands I have goals and dreams of my own
- Handles finances the same as me
- Believes it’s important to plan for the future/retirement
The Less Serious/What-I-Got-Because-It’s-Part-of-the-Overall-Craig-Package Stuff
- Knows his way around a tool box just as well as a Clinique counter
- Handles car purchases, contractors and any other sales negotiation situation (because I LOATHE those!)
- Is totally impressed with his own farting capabilities and insists, “Every man loves his own brand!”
- Can share jackets, flip flops, socks and t-shirts with me because we’re the same size
- Weighs less than me
- Is shorter than me (thus the post title)
- ONLY watches 1 sport and that 1 sport lasts just 3 weeks each year (Le Tour de France, baby!)
- Hairless (due to the shaving of most of his body)
- Wears lycra
- Has shapely legs
- Models his clothes for me before packing for a business trip
- Screams like a woman when he sees a spider
- Makes ME kill all the bugs that enter our house
- Is the Yin to my Yang
OK, so that ain’t 50 things, but hey…it’s still a great list.

That is a great list, thanks for sharing it!
I love your list! He sounds like a wonderful guy … except for the whole spider/bug thing. There is NO way I could kill all the bugs in the house, lol!
Visiting and following from Mama Kat’s!
Count yourself lucky that he only watches the Tour. Not only are we subject to that every summer, but we (a.k.a. me & the kids) are also subject to every other sport on the face of the earth!
I like the “screams like a woman”. My husband isn’t that crazy about spiders, either.
I’m an inch taller than Ryan and outweighed him while pregnant. I love wearing his t-shirts but his feet are too big for me to steal his flip flops.
Wow, great list Liz, but I have to tell ya, I better not weigh more than MY husband! He’s 6 feet tall and lifts weights!!
that is a great list. but i had to giggle at the “makes me kill all the bugs…” Too funny!
The weight thing is sooo funny! I totally feel that. If I ever weigh more than my hubs I need to do something! I may steal this post and post my list!
If he wasn’t the height he is, I’d have a hard time. Not that I like it, but I’m 5’4″, and he’s a tad shorter than me, so it kinda makes sense.
Oh that really is a great list…I can feel the love:)
The attractive while still not doing hair and makeup is also very important to me too!
Sense of humor tops my list too! My favorite one though was knows his way around a toolbox just as well as a Clinique counter…awesome!
That second half of the list cracked me up! I wish my husband would only watch one sport. Ugh!
Why are husbands like that with the farts? How can you enjoy that? I just truly do not understand why they are so fascinated by it. It happens, it’s part of life, move on, man!
But, yes, great list.
Can I borrow most of the things from your list for my future man?
Also, I knew we were kindred spirits… now I know why! Le Tour de France baby! (Starts in Amsterdam this year… SO wishing I could be there to see it.)
Have a great day!
Love it!!!! and I hear the “Loves his own brand’ comment all the time! LOL
I love this post! My husband likes his own brand too. Seriously though, Craig sounds like such a great guy and a wonderful husband.
Sounds like you have yourself a good man there. Funny that he laughs like a girl when he sees a spider. I’d die ’cause I hate them too. Haha.
Sounds like Craig is a pretty great husband! I’m taller than my husband too and when we were first dating I always wore the flatest shoes I could find…now the higher the heel the better
Aren’t our husband’s awesome. I think we’ve got the right one. When the topic comes up about what I look for in a man, i think I’m not looking for one. lol
There are a few differences in our Craigs because mine definitely weighs more than I do therefore would scare small children if he wore any type of lycra!
Great list and tribute to your husband Liz, it was fun to read.
I did not know that every man loves his own brand. That’s frightening!
Has shapely legs? Wears lycra? You are too funny!! But seriously, your hubs sounds like a great guy. I am all for a man who knows his way around the tool box and the Clinique counter. Congrats on 11 years of happiness!!!
I could have written the top list. I also could have ALMOST written the bottom list. Aside from the screaming at spiders part (has only happened once) and the one sport part. He is the baseball to my football, so we have the whole year covered.
definitely a great list…and lew always says you gotta like your own “brew”. men.
Wonderful list. Love the second half. He models his business trip clothes? That’s awesome.
Sounds like a great guy!
That’s a great list, Liz. I don’t know how I’d feel though if my husband weighed less than me or looked younger than me. Everything else, great.
That is a great list and he sounds like such a great catch!
Great list! I love that you said he is the Yin to your Yang. That is how it should be. Sound like you have a great husband!
What a lovely list! The Tour is pretty much the only sport that Rich doesn’t watch whereas I quite like it, my parents are major fans!
Damn. You know what? That really was a great list. I married a short man too. Love that YOU are secure that he weighs less than you and that HE is secure in himself as a man. Isn’t that SO attractive?
Values your opinion – totally underrated and so very important!
ps – do you know how lucky you are that your man follows ONE sport?
Ah, it’s a superb list! I especially love:
ONLY watches 1 sport and that 1 sport lasts just 3 weeks each year (Le Tour de France, baby!)
That’s my husband too, Thank God!! I don’t think I could handle being married to someone who pouts when their team losses and yells at the TV.
You and Craig sound perfect.
Great list. I was a little confused at first thinking maybe you were going to list the fifty men you loved.
One sport….can you tell me what what’s like? I’m curious and a little jealous.
Stopping by from Mama Kat’s. I love that you changed up the list too. It’s funny to see how your “list” changes when you think of it in terms of who you have now.
LOL! I can appreciate that list, except for the bug bit.
He dang well better be taking on those bugs.
Ah..the Yin to your Yang!! What could be better than that!! What a great list. I think it’s awesome to take “inventory” every now and then…just to appreciate what you have!! Love it!!
p.s…my sister is married to a guy who is “part girl” too!! He totally cracks me up. One day he was over at our pool and asked if I had some lotion for his “dry feet”! I asked if he wanted regular or Shea butter (of course I was totally kidding). He responded by saying “Shea butter would be best, they are REALLY dry”!
In all my life I could never even imagine D-man “lotioning” his feet!!
Hahaha this is an awesome list, Liz! Love the scream part
What a great list! I bet he’s a lot of fun! I love that he finds you attractive even when you’re not dolled up! Wayne is that way too thank goodness!
Though I’m embarrassed to admit, the “Every man loves his own brand!” comment is HILARIOUS! What a great post! Thanks for making me laugh AND relate!
I love this Liz! He sounds like a lot of fun. You forgot one thing though… He has a knack for leaving dangerous hardware hanging above doors. lol I’m still cracking up over the personal fart brand comment. lol
Kristi, Live and Love…Out Loud
@TweetingMama
Bahaha! Great list. My husband weighs less than me too – drives me nuts. AND I’m probably hairier than he is, not because he shaves – but simply because he doesn’t have any body hair.
Who cares if it isn’t 50 things…that is a great list! Sens eof humor so important
