Brought to you by this week’s Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop

Prompt 1.) Dear Mommy and/or Daddy…(write a letter to yourself from one of your children)
(inspired by Denise from Laughing With Spoons).

Mama's Losin' It

Dear Daddy,

Thank you for being such a good daddy.  You love to teach me things like how to swim and how to bake cakes, though not at the same time.  You take me on bike rides and keep a dog leash handy in case I get too tired.   You even brush out my hair before leaving the house with me because you don’t want me to look like white trash when we go to Kroger.

I love running into your office and giving you a hug and a kiss first thing in the morning, and how you carry me up the stairs on your back when it’s time to go to bed.

I’m glad you are proud of me and my artwork.  I think I’m a pretty good draw-er.

I love your silly songs and when you take me and not Maddie along on a trip to Target or Lowes.

I don’t love your stinky farts nor do I understand why you keep eating stuff that makes your belly do that.

I love that you work from home so I can see you a lot, and I know that when you dress up, it means you are leaving the house to visit some customers.

I love that you are always around for dinner.  You asking me how I spent my day, every day, and me relaying every.single.trivial detail – in a 15 minute-long recap – is something I look forward to providing you and Mommy.

I love that I’m your favorite oldest girl, because Maddie is a brat and I get jealous of any attention given to her.

You’re my best Daddy and I love you,

Kate

************************

Father,

I’m glad Kate mentioned “dressing up” because I know you know your way around a make-up counter.  Thank goodness for that because I’m going to need to learn someday, and Mommy sure as hell isn’t going to be of any help.

Your diva for life,

Madelyn

What a sweet exercise! It’s great to reflect and see yourself through your children’s eyes.

HAHAHA! I love letters to parents from kids – they always make me laugh! How wonderful is it that he brushes her hair. And gets to work from home! And as a fellow gassy person, I can relate to the stinky farts. What a wonderful daddy!

Hmmm…sounds like we have the horrific “Daddy farts” in common. I always tell D-man he has something dead inside there! Now the kids tell him that!!

Such a cute letter!!

The bits about white trash and farts are mentioned here almost on a daily basis. Great post!

hahaha! I love how you showcased both of your girls’ personalities.

That was hysterical. Why does Craig know his way around a make-up counter?

Love it! Both of their personalities come across in each letter and it sounds like they both have a great relationship with their Daddy :D

I love Madelyn’s letter – short, to the point, every bit of what a diva would write… I think Dad farts are a rite of passage for every kid. Every kid’s dad is going to have stinky farts – I don’t think it really matters what they eat.

Hahaha too cute! Kate’s letter almost made me chocked up because it makes me wish we have a little girl too. Then Madelyn’s letter just crack me up hahaha. You’re an awesome writer, Liz!

That should warm Daddy’s heart this morning… he sounds like a great guy!

Really great how the reader can get the personality differences just by reading these letters….

Any man that can make a cake as pretty as he can deserves a letter like this and more. He sounds like such a good daddy.

One of these days everybody’s gonna have to let me in on the working-from-home-and-where-you-find-these-jobs secret.

And I love the little side note from Maddie. Precious!

Neat prompt! I really need to head over to Mama Kat’s sometime! The first letter was my favorite but the second says a lot about your sweet girl’s personality…

GG loves trips to Lowe’s with her Daddy too!

Trying to decide which letter I’d rather be on the receiving end of…

Too hard to tell.

Only an excellent father would make sure that his daughter didn’t look like white trash in the grocery store. These are awesome. I read the one from Maddie in a British accent. :)

“White trash” cracked me up because I always tell Tater he has to brush his hair so he doesn’t look like a homeless kid when we go to Target!

And Maddie’s letter is so awesome!

Isn’t it amazing how different siblings personalities can be?? I’m impressed that your husband brushes the girls’ hair. Mine ALWAYS sends them to me… like he can’t use a hairbrush??

My daughter’s letter would make me wonder if you don’t like those stinky farts, why do you keep pulling his finger?

Reply

Sherri August 19, 2010 at 7:25 pm

What a great prompt! I cracked up at the letter from Kate, and the one from Maddie was hysterical! Great way to show their differences.

We have a Daddy that is much like the daddy in your family…hmmmm, maybe there are a lot of men who still retain some of their boyishness. Except that makeup part.
