Random Happies

The word *random* takes me back to college.

For some *random* reason, every girl in my sorority {Gasp! Yes, I was in a house!} religiously used that word.  You’d think someone told us we had a chance to become a billionaire with each utterance because any and every conversation included at least a dozen *randoms*, and in more ways than just the dictionary says you should use it.

*Random* anecdote for me to share, I know.

With regard to all things *random,* here are a couple other tidbits for you…

= Madelyn’s baptism is 3 weeks away, and we’ve made great progress on her baptismal gown!

Some of you may remember that I decided I was going to un-box my wedding gown and use it to make Maddie a baptismal gown.  Miss Marilyn is my fabulous seamstress and we just went for a fitting!  She’s re-using as many elements from my gown as possible, and I’m so excited to see the final product!

= Maddie loves her new early education program!

Her speech evaluation is scheduled for Sept 22, but in the mean time, she’s trying to talk so, so, so much more than ever before!  While that is a really encouraging sign, her “talking” more just sets off flares and sirens highlights how unintelligible her language truly is.

One part of us working hard to get her up to snuff involves enrolling her in an early education program, which we did in August.  Thursday when I dropped her off, I was speaking with one of her teachers in the hallway when Maddie interrupted me, pointed to the door of her classroom and said, “Doe (Go), Mama! Doooooooooe!!”  Her teacher scooped her up and said, “It’s so great having kids who are excited to be here!”

It makes me feel good that it’s such a positive experience for her.

= Poppy will get her wish because Craig should have handed over his Man Card Friday morning.

Funny or Snot

Friday morning he walked over to me, carrying 2 magazine pages.

Which hairstyle do you like best?

(I looked back and forth between the 2) “Um, you don’t have long enough hair for either of these styles.”

But I will.  My hair needs to grow into them.  See, (gesturing to the page on my right) this one is short on the sides and long on the top, but this one (gesturing to the left) is longer and shaped all the way around.

(He turns and faces me) “I cannot find a stylist who knows how to texturize my hair! The past 6 stylists I’ve had haven’t known how to do it!

Oooh, the woes of a metrosexual!

{This post is part of the Week of *Randomness* at Word Up, YO!}

I can’t even begin to imagine… WAY too much testosterone in this home.

Can’t wait to see the dress.

I totally used my wedding gown to make the triplet’s baptism outfits.

    Wanna see?

Wow, Liz…you may have to start guarding your hair care and skin products from Craig. Those things are pricey! Maybe he has some advice for me, as I’m feeling dated and behind the times. Texturizing? Wow…

I over-use the word “random” totally like a sorority chick…

What a great idea to use your wedding dress for the baptism gown. I searched high and low for my son’s. Never even occurred to me. So I guess it’ll just sit in it’s box a little longer.

Glad your daugher is enjoying her early ed program!!

Everything was random in college! It was the word of the early 2000′s!

LOL, I think I still use the word Random too often. I love how your husband actually said texturizing, I don’t even know what that is LOL. But then again I think it has been almost six months since my last hair cut! I know (gasp) I am bad!

Sometimes I wish my husband had hair. That’s right, he’s bald. Looks awesome bald, very sexy – but now he’s obsessed with MY hair. I’m sure he would stalk my hair dresser if she cut off more than the “1/2 inch trim”. Coming home with a *random* new hair style (especially if it’s shorter) = 1 week of putting up with a pissy husband. No joke.

I love that each of your girls will have a special baptismal gown of their own to pass down. We used Jeremy’s family gown for Georgia (she barely fit into it and we didn’t close the back button at the neck).
It’s really exciting that you got an evaluation so quickly – here’s hoping that you get services!
I have no words for Craig today – I don’t even think I think about my hair that much! I, like Hannah, have no clue what texturizing is. Jeremy gets his hair cut at the local barber – #2 on the top and #1 on the sides. Thanks for being the bit of humor I wake up to!

The Viking spends just as much time on his hair. It’s hilarious. He visits a “stylist” uses “product” and even blow dries. It totally kills me.

My hubby lost his card by fretting too much over what shirt goes with what pair of pants and fighting with me whether a pair of navy socks were actually black, but gained the card back by building a bunch of stuff for the baby’s room with his power tools. So you win some…

We used my mom’s wedding dress for Gillian Grace’s gown…it turned out so beautifully and was all the more special because of the gown’s history! I just love this idea. Please post pics when it’s done.

And go Craig! Way to take care of yourself and keep yourself looking all studly for the Misses.

Does he get manicures? If so I’m so calling GQ to include him in their Married Metro feature.
The gown sounds amazing. My boys were both huge for their baptism. I had to use this ivory sweater jumper thing. I birth big kids.

How random that random was the word of choice in your college days- mine too! Like, totally.

Tell Craig he should feel happy that he has hair. Mine started losing his at only 18 & is only getting thinner the closer he gets to 30.

Are you telling me that your husband cares about his appearance? Let me guess. I bet his clothes are wrinkle free and he doesn’t have to ask you if they match. When he rolls out of bed, he doesn’t have to decide if he needs a dirty baseball cap because his hair looks like Gumby.

I bet he smells nice, tucks in his shirt and shaves more than once a week, too?

I have no idea what that is like. My husband is a real treasure.

My girls are huge random users. That and awkward is another favorite.

I would bust a gut if my husband said that to me. Although, having short kind of boy hair myself, it IS so hard to find a stylist who knows how to texturize.

My life is so much easier for having a bald husband.

    I never appreciated.

This post is both hilarious and *random*. Love the comments everyone has about their husbands’ hair.
My husband maintains the military shaved head. I kind of wish he had hair long enough to “do” now and then. When we first met, he was sporting the “surfer dude” cut (he surfed a lot then) and his hair was long enough to flow down past his ears… 4 years into military life, though, and I haven’t seen it grow longer than 1/4 an inch.

Oh my, your husband is very metrosexual! I could not ever imagine having such a conversation with my husband about his hair style. How wonderful that Maddie is loving her class, as for the intelligibility I think the only person who fully understands a particular toddlers speech is their mother. Even my husband only gets about 50% of what our three year old says and I find it hard to understand other three year olds.

Oh, I love the Craig stories. Tell him I’m sorry to hear that he can’t find a good stylist. That is, like, the worst! OMG. (I have no idea where that all came from – it’s not like metrosexual = teenager-speak. I’m tired today.)

Wanna know something random? I was in a sorority, too.

Can’t wait to see the baptismal gown. That’s a great idea! And I’m glad to hear that Maddie is doing well in her school program – and with her speech! We got an “all done” (more like ah duh) this weekend and nearly fell over. I think the little one’s Silent Period is coming to an end…

I cannot even imagine, but clearly, the man was meant to have daughters.

He must feel right at home among the estrogen.

Also, I feel so good that you felt the love at your little one’s place. That makes a big difference to encouragement.

HAHAHA! Ah, the Craig stories. Always a good time. He said ‘texturize.’ I love it. But admit it, his hair looks amazing, right?

That’s so great about Maddie’s progress with talking – but I know what you mean. Mother = translator. No one knows what the hell the Chalupa is talking about when he opens his mouth.

I love the wedding dress idea, and I can’t wait to see the final product. As for Maddie’s speech, I’ve been there, and still doing that, haha. Scooby starts preschool speech therapy on Thursday. He’s come a long way from where he was thanks to the IEP. He still has a little way to go, but at least these days, his sister seems to be able to translate a lot too.

I probably overuse the word “random” myself, but I can’t help it. Just a word that sums up so many things in this world :)

I LOOOOOVE that your using your wedding gown for your daughter’s baptismal gown! I’ve actually never heard of anyone doing this before–is it popular? I just think it’s wonderful that your past and your daughter’s future will be intrinsically linked in the fabric of her dress. It’s a poetic and a beautiful way of recycling your wedding dress :)

    Craig = awesome :)

I’m so glad Maddie’s loving her new program and that she’s already progressing!! Yay!

My hubby is far from metrosexual, but dear God he has a thing about his hair! He’d probably be able to have a conversation with Craig about their texturing woes.

My husband would never cop to it, but he is as metrosexual as they come and he spends more $ on shoes, clothes and his hair than I do! He and Craig would probably get along just fine.

Happy to hear that Maddie is doing so well.

PS. I overuse the word random. It’s like I’m reliving my college days.
