Why I’m Thankful This Thanksgiving

The biggest concern in our lives during this past year has definitely been Maddie’s speech development. But between starting her in an early education program and as well as private speech therapy sessions, we’re thrilled to be on a new path!

Things I am thankful (to hear) for this year:

“Pick me up!”

“Elmo on my di-puh!”

“Bad doggy – no, no!”

“Helf you, mama!”

“Oh, wight!”

“Rudolph!”

(Touching finger to lips like she’s thinking hard) “Con mem-buh!” Her way to say she can’t remember.

And the cherry on top?

“Luh loo, mama!” Her way to say “love you!”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today it’s “helf you, mama!” and tomorrow it’s
“mother please. you know that I don’t care for the crusts on my organic almond butter and banana butter sandwiches. Actually, I’m tired of these sandwiches altogether. Tomorrow, I would prefer sushi. You may be excused.”

A child’s words are the most adorable thing. Ever. Well, at least 57% of the time. The Chalupa just started saying, “Membuh when…” Kills me every time. But ‘love you’ takes the cake.

Hope you’re having a wonderful holiday!

I remember the fear and then joy I felt during my son’s journey with speech development. The relief is intense and those first, fumbling-but-clear words are the best!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
