Can Facebook Get You Out of Jury Duty?

1. According to a recent radio report I heard, your Facebook activity *could* keep you off a jury!  Some attorneys have started performing internet searches on potential jurors, and those who show a high level of Facebook activity may be deemed too opinionated to take part in a jury.

2. Any frequent travelers should know about efforts being made by a few hotel chains to become more involved with social media.  Check out The Huffington Post’s article, “How To Take Advantage of Hotels’ Social Media Programs“.

Yes, that means if you are active on twitter, it might pay off in free hotel upgrades!

3. Anyone see the recent Grey’s Anatomy that had Lexi tweeting surgery updates from Bailey’s OR?  I figured that was just “Hollywood,” but it turns out, it’s true!  Amanda, who works in health care marketing, sent me a link to an article about St. Joseph Hospital.

In case you haven’t already figured it out, today is another #BlogBoycottDay!  Spend the day honing your social media skills (and improving your chances at fancy hotel upgrades) by hanging out on Twitter, chatting with friends!

If you’d like to join us, please link up your TWITTER HANDLE below, grab a button and get to tweeting!

The next #BlogBoycottDay is Friday, April 8th.

Okay… where was THIS post all of the previous times I’ve gotten summoned for jury duty? God bless Facebook. And that’s all there is to say about that.

I keep reading about twitter, thinking about twitter, considering twitter, but I have yet to really… twitter. Maybe today will be the day!?

is it dorky that when I saw that Grey’s episode, I first got all excited, but then got all haughty because they’re JUST now catching on to twitter? hah! we’re so ahead of Grey’s Anatomy.

also? I am so opinionated on FB. but it’s super private, so I doubt it will get me out of jury duty. boo.

The great thing about moving abroad is no more jury duty. Although this might come in handy when I go back.

Facebook is a powerful tool. We always look at Facebook before hiring someone new.
The jury duty thing I could totally use that! I wonder if they have ever caught someone tweeting or facebooking from jury duty. Now that could be a scandal.

I don’t think I want people tweeting while I am in surgery. It might land them in a place with jury if they tweet during the wrong time.

Jury Duty is something that fascinate me tremendously. I sometimes wish someone could do a post about it to explain more because it is not something we do here in SA. We have a Judge who make the decision whether you’re guilty or not.

That was a great article on hotels and social media with some good resource to refer to, thanks for sharing it. And I am SO glad to know about FB usage being an acceptable excuse for not having to do Jury Duty – it’s gonna help me coax all my FB/Twitter phobic friends to get on board! :-)

Cool, the link I sent! :) It’s amazing what goes on in an OR. I watched a surgery once (brain surgery at that) where the docs were chit chatting, listening to music and at one point (during a break) were talking on their cell phones! If you think about it, for the really good surgeons, it’s just another day at the office.

I was on jury duty ONCE and had the worst experience ever. I’d do just about anything to get out of it if I were called again.

Linked up! I have jury duty for 2 days in a couple weeks and I tell you what I am opinionated on Facebook. But I live so rural and remote that my county just needs jurors!

I figure the whole “I’m Republican and believe in the death penalty” thing would work. If not, there’s always, “I think people are guilty until proven innocent.” Just kidding! Or am I?
