When you find…
…that came out of…
…who sleeps here…
…you know you’re a mama who’s in deep, deep trouble.

Have you had to deal with a missing or damaged-beyond-repair lovey? Any advice for me?

This Friday, please join me in another #BlogBoycottDay, where you spend the day chatting with friends in the Twitterverse instead of blog hopping!

Whoa – I would freak out if I found that in my daughter’s crib! Fortunately that has not happened (yet).
I have three words of advice for you: Learn. To. Sew.
I once had to go out and buy a replacement Buddy (stuffed dog lovey). Luckily Target had one that was similar enough that T didn’t notice the difference (he was still young). Now that he’s older, the new Buddy is losing some stiches. So I sew him back up, even though my sewing is awful. I’m not sure what I’ll do if he ever becomes unfixable…maybe the boy will outgrow him by then??
We have 5… that we interchange between grandmas and home. We were lucky that she latched on to a $5 Kohls Stuffed Animal, so we bought several copies and rotate them through the wash so Gilbert always looks the same.
You are a woman with a plan! I haven’t seen this kind of wise forethought with other moms before. Color me impressed!
Oh no! Is there any way to switch it out with another toy?
Uh-oh. Can Craig sew?
Funny you say that cuz his mom got him a sewing machine for his 30 birthday a few years back.
This is what I get for waiting all day to comment: my thoughts are already expressed. Craig needs to learn to sew.
Uh sorry I fortunately don’t have any experience with this. My son never had a lovey and my girls were pretty fickle and would pretty much take anything.
My advice would be not to make too big a deal out of it because the more stressed you are, the more stressed she will be!
Good luck!!!
Oh no…that is TOTAL impending doom! I deal with that around here with the dog, now!
Luckily for me, only my daughter had a true lovey, and it survived to this day intact (even washed it a bunch of times).
Sew him up! We’ve lost a few but my son hasn’t become too attached to an exact one as long as it looks similar.
Yes that would be scary! I am not sure what to do maybe someone can replace the filling? I am your newest follower found you via WW
Have a spare one at the ready. That used to work when my daughter was younger, now at 3, she is far too smart.
Here’s a post i wrote about my 3 year old’s favourite teddy and its body double.

I wish I had thought about it when we got him, but her taking to him caught me off guard!
You get so much comments on your blog but I like it that you read each and everyone of them – including mine
I have had to tell the kids in the past that the faerie of broken things, came to collect that particular loved thing and take it with him/her. It’s the heaven for broken things. That usually did the trick.
Awww – I’ve never heard of that approach, but I like the idea of “heaven for broken things!”
Sew and she’ll probably just love it the same!
My daughter’s beloved blanket? Ewww…but she doesn’t want a new one. She wants it tattered, faded, torn and all.
Duct tape…it makes the world go round in one piece.
Snort! Would Chunky like a duct taped lovey?
See, this is why we have not one, not two, but THREE Lambies. We are fully prepared.
Whoa! That would scare me too…stupid toys that won’t stay together…ARGH!
Loveys are called dou-dous in France and they are highly encouraged. None of my kids ever got super attached to them though. Most people here get doubles so that they will never be without.
Sorry about the little dog.
I actually haven’t had to deal with something like this YET, but I am terrified it is coming soon! My youngest one is a year old now and she is 100% attached to her knitted blankey. She loves, loves, loves LOVES her blankey and can’t sleep without it. I am worried that one of these days a yarn thread is going to come loose and the whole thing will unravel and then we’ll really be up a creek!
Luckily we never had any attachments like that when the kids were little besides the binky for little man. Sorry no advice. Eek!
Oh yikes!!! That is no bueno!
MAJORLY no bueno!
I wish I had seen her love for him coming on and bought a second one.
Or else he’ll just have to be a flat dog.
i’ve placed an overnight order on ebay. for a replacement mr pluffers. we now also have multiples. good luck!
My friend called ahead to a dry cleaner and set up a whole scheme. She took in her daughter with messed up doll and they came back a few hours later and picked up the new and improved clean (ie new) doll. It worked wonders. If you can’t find a replacement, maybe set it up with a seamstress who can play vet and fix up puppy?
I’m not going to admit how long I slept with my lovey (let’s just say I remember taking it to volleyball camp). Losing a lovey is a great tragedy in a young life. If it’s any comfort to you, I went through the loss of a lovey and I turned out perfectly balanced and healthy. At least that’s what my therapist tells me.
If you’re having a hard time finding a replacement try http://www.lostmylovey.com/
Good Luck!
