What Was He Thinking?!

This past week, my Twitter stream has been full of Weiner wiener tweets and questions about the +K Klout feature.

While I can’t tell you why in the world a politician (or anyone for that matter) would tweet lewd photos of himself, I can answer some basic questions about Klout and it’s +K button.

Klout is a measure of social media influence, and anyone with a twitter handle has a Klout score. Additional factors – like Facebook, LinkedIn and FourSquare – figure into your total social media influence score, but generally, the more you tweet, the more your Klout score will climb.

And the higher your Klout score, the better chance you have at winning a Klout Perk.

Free wine, anyone?

(If free wine isn’t a reason to join in #BlogBoycottDay, I don’t know what is!)

The +K button is a feature added in the past 2 weeks, and it gives users like you and me the chance to grant “+K” to the Tweeps who have influenced us on various topics. If you visit either your Klout profile page or the pages of your Twitter friends, you’ll see a list of 10 topics that you/they are considered to be influential about. For me, it’s topics like blogging and parenting (and apparently the Cleveland Browns????).

Each user can grant 5 +K’s a day, and cannot give the same person a +K for the same topic more than 1 time in a 7 day period. So even though I think Kristin is the bomb diggity when it comes to raising a toddler, I’ve already +K-ed her for that and have to wait a few more days before I can do so again.

So now that you know a bit more about Klout, how to raise yours, and the benefits that *may* come with heavy Twitter usage (wine!), why not spend the day in the twitterverse instead of blog hopping?

Blog Boycotters, please link up your TWITTER HANDLE in the Linky below!

I’m intrigued by this klout thingamagigger you speak of. On the one hand, all these blog plug in’s and gadgets make my brain hurt. On the other hand, I’d like to start stockpiling free wine. Come November I think I’m going to need it.

I just found Klout last week. I laugh at what I am influential on…Unfortunately, I found your #blogboycott after I posted for today!
But since I appear to be influential on wine…I want wine especially if its free.

Hi! So I still don’t understand the point of Klout. What’s the real use of it? And if people are trading these +K things back and forth, isn’t that just another layer of “do for me and I’ll do for you” that we have to add to the already long list of that we bloggers/tweeters already do for each other? I don’t know if that made sense . . .

I think I’m going to continue to ignore it!

I have a new appreciation of the Klout concept after poking around the site. Maybe because I’m happy with my number. I’m a sucker for that stuff. The k+ thing though is SO clearly a way to drive traffic to their site. It reminds me of when there are contests you’re supposed to go and vote for EVERY day. Kind of sneaky!

Thank you, THANK YOU, for explaining Klout! Someone told me I was influential on Klout for the “Ides of March”. And I was like, what? First of all, what the heck is Klout, and why the heck am I influential about the “Ides of March”? Now, at least I have one of those questions answered. =)

    So that’s what that’s about.

Again, me: day late, dollar short, in the dark, call me mushroom.

Thanks, Liz..what would I do without you?

    Seriously.

Oh goodness, not Klout. I think it’s the biggest BS and the only thing it measures is how much Real Housewives you Tweet about with other bloggers, not meaningful influence to any brand. BOO
