It’s All About the Sugar Shake

With the end of the school year comes the end of the dance year, too. This week (and coming weekend) is going to be filled with a whole lotta hairspray, makeup, bobby pins and this…

Ha! That’s the owner of the studio. Since this was filmed at dress rehearsal, so stood front and center to direct the kids if need be. :)

So cute and reminds me of my dance recitals–all the satiny costumes with glitter and sequins–and makeup. Love.

Can’t wait to experience this with my girlie.

    Also–“booby pins” (hee hee).

Do the teachers do a dance at the end of the recital?? I remember they used to do one at the end of ours. My dad actually replayed a video of one of mine a few months ago and the teachers dance was HILARIOUS!! They thought they were such bad asses.

    • liz
      June 7, 2011 | 11:26 am

They actually do a huge opening number. Teachers and the older girls who have danced all their lives and singers. It’s quite an ordeal!

If you are looking at the teenage helper on stage, Kate is to her right (or, as you are viewing it, your left). She literally hit every beat!

We just had our dance recital (and by our I mean my youngest daughter’s) a couple of weekends ago. When everything was finally over and she had been cleansed of all the makeup and hairspray she sat on my lap and in all seriousness said “I wish I could do it all over again.”

Your Kate is as cute as could be and looked like she was loving the stage!

This is so cute! It so makes me miss my dance recitals. I am taking Paige to see my old dance studio’s recital in a couple of weeks. I think that it is finally time to enroll her. We went to see my niece’s recital a couple of weeks ago and Paige finally realized that it was her turn to shine! SO excited! Now i jsut need to keep myself calm so that I don’t go jump up on stage!!

    That was beyond fabulous!

It also makes me sad for my daughter and her first/only dance recital.

Karly and her best friend went to the local “YOU HAVE TO GO THERE” dance studio.

    It was….expensive.

The lessons, the shoes (tap and ballet), the outfits.

The girls were five. They went every week for a year.

Their recital was held at our big Civic Arts Plaza and the tickets cost a boatload as did their costumes.

The show was on Father’s Day so we invited all the grandpas and great-grandpas – hundreds of dollars worth of tickets.

“But it will all be worth it because after all the time and effort and love and money, they will be AWESOME!”

    Yes.

    Then they performed…..(drum roll please)

    The Chicken Dance.

    I kid. you. not.

Karly never took another dance class again.

      June 7, 2011 | 12:44 pm

I don’t think that the Chicken Dance can ever qualify as “dancing.” Not even by my dog’s standards.
