I have my reasons why I thought this day wouldn’t come for several more months. If not years.
We’d have a day or two where Maddie would ask to go potty, and would be really good about going only in the toilet. But after that day or two passed, she’d be right back to acting like diapers were her forever friend.
She teased us all last Spring. This “good potty business for a day or two” pattern repeated itself several times. Her teachers in her little 2 year old preschool program asked me to send her in Pull-Ups® because a bunch of kids in her class were training or had trained, and they figured it would help her.
We had a few good runs over the summer where she’d be perfect for 10-14 days, but then would fall off the potty wagon and be back to wetting constantly (and not caring that she was wet). I kept thanking my lucky stars that I registered her at 2 preschools – one that required kids to be fully trained and another where it didn’t matter.
In late July, Maddie turned 3 and was still wearing diapers.
But all of a sudden? We started on another “streak” of good potty behavior and this time it stuck!
Just a few days before preschool started, Maddie was wearing undies all day, every day. Because her school was going to be new to her and she’d also be napping there, I sent her in Pull-Ups® the first few days. She treated them just like underwear and wore underwear whenever she was at home.
By the second week of school, she wore underwear all the time, keeping her Pull-Ups® only for her naps.
For our trip to Chattanooga, she wore Pull-Ups® there, too. The car ride was 5 hours long one way, and I was worried that and the excitement of the Aquarium and Children’s Museum would be too much for her. But she had perfect potty days the entire trip.
I didn’t use Pull-Ups® with Kate because when she trained, we were at home all the time. We had just moved from New Hampshire to Tennessee and I had 7 week old colicky newborn Madelyn keeping me busy.
But when it came time to train Maddie? All that was different.
Any parent of more than 1 kid knows that how you do things with the first child is not necessarily how you’ll handle those same issues with your second (or third or fourth). We now have places to go and things to see; no staying home until I was confident Maddie was potty trustworthy. So Pull-Ups® were our perfect “in between” solution.
Pull-Ups® Training Pants read about our potty training trials and contacted me about their new Cars2 design (for boys) and potty timer “watch”.
We did not use the Potty Timer while training, but it’s a pretty cool concept.
This little reminder “watch” includes music, a flashing light, vibration and recordable message from mom.
Kid #2 was definitely a much longer potty training process for us as compared to Kid #1. Either way, I’m just so happy that we went from this look:

Oh, and my daughter would wear a 2T size.
This is great. Maddie sounds a lot like Harlan. She did great for about 10 days and is back to wetting herself. Hoping something clicks soon!
It will! But it’s so frustrating, right? It’s like they know *how* to do it but choose not to.

I’m psyched about potty training. My 3yr. old daughter has worked on it for the past year, on and off, and I think this time is it. She being very independent and is very excited about it. She wears a 4t/5t and loooves the princesses.
Great idea. My baby boy, ok toddler
Aaron is 2 and wears a size 2T. He’s just not interested and I bet this watch would do the trick. What a great idea!
My son starts potty training on Monday! He wears 2T
