Kids Talkin’ Turkey 2011

As soon as Halloween passed, school lessons shifted to Pilgrims and Indians, the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock. One night at dinner last week, both girls were telling Craig all about their days at school and what they were starting to learn about Thanksgiving.

Kate being the older of the two definitely heard more of the details about the journey across the ocean and had way too much a lot to say about some of the people not surviving the trip, how you can’t drink ocean water because it’s salt water and why did people eat deer back then. Maddie’s teachings were in much simpler terms as she’s just in her first year of preschool. And when she told Craig about what she learned? I wanted to kiss her and laugh at her all at the same time when she said, “The Indians lived in giant triangles!

That’s when I started to think about recording in some way the kids’ understanding and interpretations of Thanksgiving at their current age. Then I thought about the 2 lovely ladies behind VlogTalk, Elena and Jessica, and tossed it out there to see if they were game.

That’s when #KidsTalkinTurkey was born!

Kids-Talking-Turkey

What: Your #KidsTalkinTurkey post (prompts below) can include a video-recorded interview, photo of their drawing or the re-telling of your kids’ answers to any of the prompts below. Remember, we’re focused on what they understand Thanksgiving to be all about. And even though it’ll be done in conjunction with VlogTalk, you do not have to record a video to take part.

When: Linky opens Monday, November 21st and stays open through Monday, November 28th.

Why: Because we want to remember all the adorable and hysterical things our kids are saying now so we can look back at those recorded memories when our kids are grown.

#KidsTalkinTurkey Prompts

  1. Tell us the story of the First Thanksgiving.
  2. What is Thanksgiving all about?
  3. What foods are part of Thanksgiving dinner? What foods should be part of Thanksgiving dinner?
  4. Tell us about a Thanksgiving tradition in your family.
  5. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
If your camera is recording and the kids are chatting away, don’t hesitate to keep asking questions! And as an extra bonus, one of the VlogTalk prompts that week will tie into #KidsTalkinTurkey.
We hope you’ll join us in some Thanksgiving fun!

This is a great idea. I have something from a couple years ago where Buddy described our dinner. I can’t remember if I already posted about it or not…I’ll have to check.

This will be hilarious, although I am a little nervous about getting my kids together in front of a webcam. I am totally doing a video though. They are total hams!

The goofier the better, in my opinion! Plus, you’ll have a record for all of eternity.

I’m not sure if they’re talking about Thanksgiving or not yet at Goose’s daycare, but I’m going to give this a shot :) she’s not quite 3 yet, so it might not work, but we’ll see!
