It all started innocently enough.
Kate’s bottom 2 teeth became wiggly, with one waaaaaay more wigglier than the other.
She stopped biting into food with her front teeth because it bothered her too much.
One of her 2 bottom teeth could be moved 90 degrees forward as well as wobbled from side to side.
Then on February 18th, as seen in the video below, I surveyed her situation and suggested we give it a yank.
Shockingly, she agreed.
And even more shockingly, there was no drama upon extraction.
(The video below does show how wiggly her tooth is but does not show the actual extraction.)
Have you pulled any of your kids’ teeth? How much does the tooth fairy leave at your home?

So far I’ve not been allowed to touch, see or even discuss a wiggly tooth. It’s a pain when they stop eating though.
I can’t wait until the girls start losing teeth! Haha! I used to love pulling them when I was little. I like the idea of using silver dollars or gold dollars and putting them in cute little pouches. I see that all over Pinterest.
Awe she’s so cute with the missing first tooth! I hope it didn’t hurt too much coming out. How did she take it?
Yikes, we are not there yet but I don’t think I could do any type of yanking. I’m too much of a wuss. Is she excited for the tooth fairy?
I bet she’s so excited!
Loose teeth gross me out, so my husband deals with them. Dylan has lost 5 so far, and one of them was pulled out by my husband.
We gave $5 for the first tooth, and $1-$2 for each of the other teeth. Although, the tooth fairy forget to hit the ATM, and only had a $5 bill to give the last time he lost a tooth!
This post makes me nervous. I narrowly survived my oldest losing her teeth, I have a total weak stomach for pulling teeth and I have SO many loose teeth in my future.
I once pulled my own tooth at dinner so I could eat chips and salsa in comfort. My father is still horrified.
I’ve pulled teeth. My daughter was wary of me pulling it, but once it was out she said she wished she’d allowed me to pull it sooner.
The tooth fairy leaves $1 per tooth, unless the dentist had to remove the tooth.. Then the tooth fairy leaves $2.
We have always done a dollar but we put glitter glue on it. Jacob loved that the Tooth Fairy left some of her glitter on it. Paige still hasn’t lost any yet but she also didn’t get any teeth until she was 18 mos old.
Eek! I’m not a puller – but go you, mama! Much more comfortable for your ‘lil sweetie, yes?
Ew! Loose teeth give me the willies! I am a little freaked that Wyatt is getting so close to this stage.
I think it’s hilarious that we encourage our children to be toothless but as adults it’s not that great of a look. LOL.
So happy that she’ll be visited by the tooth fairy.
I’m totally squeamish so I don’t think I could ever do a home extraction – you’re both very brave!!
Adorable video! My oldest used to take forever to pull teeth/have them come out…. my youngest used to yank them out herself at the first sign of looseness — it was amazing!
I had more than a single tooth yanked as I grew up. in fact, after awhile, if a tooth was bothering me, I figured out how to yank it myself, though I never did the “doorknob attached to a string.”
Hooray for minimal drama.
I just consulted the tooth fairy, though I know inflation will play into things before my kids have to worry about teeth falling out, but I heard $5 for the first tooth, and then $1 for each subsequent tooth.
But, regional bias (or a cheap or luxurious parent) may play into that estimation.
Go Kate Go! How much did the Tooth Fairy leave her?
I was just thinking this morning what kind of BS it is that we have to lose those teeth in the first place just to get new ones, especially after all the DRAMA that comes with baby teeth!
I’m a tooth yanker. Poor Ryan is scared of me.
OMG, I can’t. I’m sorry. Just hearing about loose teeth makes me cringe. This is not something I’m looking forward to when it comes to parenting
they are still too little , but I remember my grandma tying a piece of string to my tooth and pulling…we were both so proud of getting it done.
I do love those “toothless” school pictures…:)
I can’t bring myself to watch the video. Loose teeth just give me the willies. I have chills just sitting here thinking about loose teeth!! Not much bothers me, but loose teeth, finger nail/toe nail injuries, and burns really get to me.
I don’t look forward to JDaniel have teeth fall out. I am afraid he might lose them.
Oh, I can’t stand teeth! I will be horrible with this. Even keeping it for under the pillow grosses me out. No nostalgic jars of baby teeth in my house! Yuck.
You did a good job, mom. Impressed.
I am not a fan of teeth. Nope.
My mom would sneak in my room in the middle of the night and yank the suckers out. Then would throw the tooth on my pillow.
Yea, she’s a rockstar.
My daughter had a very loose tooth one evening and she wouldn’t let me near it. An old friend of the family, a man, happened by that evening and took one look at her mouth, grabbed a napkin, walked over to her and yanked it out. She had no time to even notice what happened. We all just cracked up. She’s ten now and no longer believes in the Tooth Fairy or Santa. But she’s okay with that. She still keeps all of her teeth.
our tooth fairy is pretty cheap with a dollar, though there has been times she’s forgotten to come and makes it up with an extra buck…
damn tooth fairy, can’t trust her
I have never pulled a kid tooth. It freaks me out. They do an excellent job of pulling their own though. I’m impressed.
Hahaha! Mr Cool loves pulling out wobbly teeth! We give a gold coin, which in Oz is $1 or $2… I used to get 20 cents!!
What a fun age! I found out today that Miss A can’t eat carrots at school anymore, she doesn’t have enough TEETH left!
A couple of weeks ago I pulled my youngest’s tooth. So much easier than hearing her complain!
We haven’t had to pull teeth yet, and I guess we’ll figure out how to actually handle the extraction when the time comes – my parents used the whole tie-it-to-a-door thing.
How’d you extract it? And how much did your tooth fairy leave? Does the tooth fairy give cost of living adjustments?
We’ve tried the extraction method before and got so far as to even have a string tied around a tooth, but alas, my son is not the adventurous type and backed out at the last minute. You gal is much braver!
I yanked my first tooth! I don’t think my mom ever did. She looks adorable and I love that she was okay with the recording session.
By the way, Sophia has been told since birth that the tooth fairy brings pennies. If anyone messes with that they will answer to me
We are done with losing teeth at this household.
(Can you hear me sobbing? Really. I kind of am.
Because a part of me is convinced I should have appreciated the “waiting for the kids to fall asleep” and the “sneaking in at midnight” and the “where do I hide the tooth” and the “should I just throw it away? Is keeping it gross?”
And etc.
But there is a silver lining to being done. You see, there was this one time when my (very smart/manipulative) son said, “I wish the Tooth Fairy would bring me Legos instead of money!” and my husband actually got him some Legos and from them on we were stuck getting gifts for our kids from the (manipulated) Tooth Fairy.
I know.
Stupid, right?
And they were always little crap toys that broke within fifteen minutes because we tried to keep them under $5.00. which was still a lot since I used to get a quarter when I was a kid in the Stone Age. But then the kids would have broken crap instead of $5.00 and everyone was sad.
So.
Where was I?
Ah yes.
We are done losing teeth at this house. Which is okay since maybe now we can afford to send our kids to college someday.
Amen.
I can’t do it. It makes me all squeamish-y and stuff. But my two oldest have pulled their own teeth. Doesn’t bother them at all and when they get loose ones they get sorta obsessed with just getting it out. Or the money maybe? They only get like 1.25, but to them it’s a lot!
