Summer is…

I can’t put my finger on exactly why I think this was, but I continue to feel like this summer is the first *real* summer we’ve had with the girls. I’m sure it stems from several things. Like, the girls both being at very independent ages and my being able to trust that they both understand the rules of being outside and can be (relatively) trusted to follow them. They also both have pretty good physical skill sets now, so activities like riding their bikes or swinging on the swings without needing to be pushed are doable for both.

We’ve been off of school for over a month now. The following 20 things scream “It’s SUMMER!” to me.

20 Signs That It’s Summer

  • The sun still shining well past 7 pm
  • Staying up past bedtime
  • Red cheeks and sweaty brows
  • Farmer tan lines
  • Eating dinner outside
  • Sprinklers
  • The smell of sun block
  • The smell of chlorine
  • The smell of a grill
  • Tomato plants
  • My glasses fogging up as soon as I step outside or climb out of my car
  • Farmers markets
  • Planting flowers
  • Flying down the slide
  • Bug spray
  • Bugs
  • Flip flops
  • Beach towels
  • High electric bills
  • Ice cream after dinner

    Ooh the mud!

Can you believe that it doesn’t get dark here until after 10 in the summer? So bizarre!

We couldn’t believe it when we were in Ireland!! Sooooo strange to me that it is still so light hours after I’ve gone to bed. 😉

Chlorine and sunscreen for sure. I love summer so that is my favorite summer smell. I have to say now that I have a kid who runs and plays the red cheeks and dirty knees is also very summer. That’s a sign of a good time!

Not having to work (I’m a teacher) Nothing says summer more clearly than that in our house!
