Word Up, YO!, Edition 9

The WOW! (‘Word of the Week’ for any new visitors) this past week was a challenge. The Dons heard some whining about how hard it was to use the word *effervescent* in a post. Let us remind you that the whole purpose of Word Up, YO! is that it’s supposed to be a challenge. Mafia men don’t get made by sitting around eating pizza all day; they have to earn it. Which is what we expect each of you to do.

That being said, the Dons continue to be impressed with all of the effort you Associates put forth in order to move up the ranks. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed, and we are watching you.

This week, we have only one man to make.

Congratulations to Booyah’s Momma from The Adventures of Chip and Bobo!

In the eyes of the Nerd Mafia, you are now Made Men.

Please contact one of the Dons to received your code for the official Nerd Mafia button.

Good luck to all! Any maybe next week, you’ll be “made”, too!

For Rules and the new WOW!, please read below.

If you haven’t heard about Word Up, YO! yet, please read below:

KLZ, Natalie and I – a.k.a The Nerd Mafia – have a ridiculous fondness for the written word, and have come up with the idea for a vocabulary-based meme, which we so aptly named, Word Up, YO!

I bet you’re jealous, right?

Each week, we’ll feature a new word, its definition and open a Linky.

We even created a dorky badge…

header 150x150

{Please grab the code from the button in my sidebar, as it’s getting wonky when I paste it here}

To participate, you need to use the Word of the Week (WOW!) in one of your posts. When you use the word, add our Word Up, YO! button to that post, and then link up that post to one of our MckLinkys.

All entries will be considered, and the winner of the weekly Word Up, YO! vocabulary challenge will be announced the following Sunday, along with the new WOW!

Here’s a recap of the Rules…

* Use the Word of the Week (WOW!) in a post as many times as you legitimately can.
* Use the WOW! correctly in your post, & we’ve included a definition to guide you on this journey.
* Include the Word Up, Yo! button somewhere in your post.
* Link up your WOW! post anytime during the week. (The MckLinky is open Sunday-Friday at midnight).
* Link up below to your relevant post, not your blog home page, please.

That’s it! No mandatory follows, no mandatory comments. Visit as many other linked blogs as you can.

**Also, please note that the use of the word is not limited to tomorrow; you can use it in ANY post this week!**

At the end of the week, the Nerd Mafia will decide on a “winning” post. We’ll publish the winning post along with the new WOW! every Sunday.

I think the claims that there has been whining is a bit of malarky myself.

Great WOW….I use it in my everyday talk with my kids (who are full of it) and my dog (who would be full of it, if she spoke human). And most of my posts are full of it, too.

I have yet to link up to Word Up, Yo! because it seems like every week I flake out and forget to use the word. Malarky, however, is one of my favorite words. I am going to pull it together and remember to use it in a post this week!!

This is a great meme. I rarely do them because there are too many to choose from (and I apparently have issues – if I can’t do everything and do it well, I instead do nothing. How’s that for a bunch of malarky?). I am going to have to start doing this one, though.

Ummm, don’t mean to question the Dons, but is it okay if I spell it malarkEy (see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/malarky where it lists the “e” version as preferred)? In addition to being a Made Man, I’ve got a BS in Linguistics and I’m a bit of a word geek, so I start each WOW assignment with a trip to the dictionary to read up on the word.

Does The Family care about that added E? I don’t want to cross the Dons….

Also and more seriously, I’m on vacation and have created the post to be published automatically on Saturday during my long ride home….Is there a way that I can do the linky ahead? Whaddya think?

    :)
