We’ve had a rough go recently around BBCD.
Jack has some severe disc problems in his back, initially leaving him unable to move and shuddering in tremendous pain.
Then, our pool grew a leak.
A MAJOR leak.
Like, a you-can’t-walk-in-half-of-our-yard-without-muddy-water-coming-over-the-top-of-your-feet leak.
We had to drain (what was left in) it, and have the liner replaced. I’m pretty tempted to run a contest to see who can come closest to guessing on how much our water bill is going to be next month. Starbucks card, anyone?
On Saturday, Maddie took a nasty fall while playing outside. She ripped up her right knee pretty badly, scraped up her right elbow and smashed her forehead on the driveway.
Then just yesterday, she fell down the stairs. As in, tripped while she was at the top because she was stubbornly not holding onto the handrail, and tumbled – head over feet – all the way down to the bottom!
It was pretty terrifying. Somehow, I managed to lunge towards the baby gate and force it closed – stopping her rapid descent – just before she face-planted on our kitchen tile.
I think I earned some more Mama Stripes yesterday.
Can the Rule of 3s apply here? Between Jack, Maddie and the pool liner, I think we’re due for a break.

Yep, I think you’re good, you qualify for a break. So glad Maddie is okay!
I hope you get a break for sure! We could use some quiet time over here too.
Oh my, you certainly need to catch a break here! Hope Maddie’s A-OK.
Yep, you are done now with the breaking. Pass it along to someone else. Please not me.
It always seems to be the littlest falling and getting scraped up.
Eek! You’ve been having quite a time of it! Glad you were able protect Maddie from the tile floor! Stairs always made me nervous.
As far as the pool water, I don’t know. I’m guessing $80 above normal for the water bill.
I so think you have had your three!
Liz,
I am so behind, had no idea this was all going on. It’s so hard when our kids and pets (who are like our kids!) get sick. I hope things have gotten much, much better.
HUGS!
xoxo
Oh, Liz. You have earned some stripes. And a cocktail. And a hug if I could!
Oh no. What a rough time you guys are having. I hope the rule of 3′s applies!!
Awww… sorry and hope everyone’s on the mend. Clearly the rule of threes applies and you’re golden (yes, I’m knocking on wood!).
Good grief, woman! You are due for a break from the stress department!
And I am going to guess your water bill is going to be one scazillion dollars. Because I don’t see our water bill, so I have no idea what a typical one looks like, but with having to fill a pool? It’s GOT to be right up there near one scazillion.
I think you are close with your guess of “scazillion”!
Oh no!
I see the iPhone, and the Photos.
But not the Phun.
Cheers to sunnier days, mama…
Glad Maddie’s okay, hopefully Jack’s on some meds to take the edge off. As for your pool, you have my pity. I did the above ground pool thing and hated every minute of it. Now I’m doing the in ground pool thing and hating every minute of that. So there you go.
So it’s no better, just deeper in the earth?
Things have been rough for you! I’m glad Maddie’s okay, and I hope poor Jack feels better soon!
Oh yes, you are definitely due for a break!!
The rule of 3s definitely applies here, and I think you can breathe easy for the rest of the week.
Oh, but poor puppy. And poor baby girl.
And pool ownership is way more trouble than it’s worth. For real.
So you know that joy, too? I’m hoping this liner lasts for a while…
OUCH – I hope you catch a break soon. xoxo
Oh, Liz, I have SO been there. The pool leak alone would send me to the edge of my sanity.
Ouch – that’s a rough stretch. How about you keep the Starbuck’s card and get yourself a latte – and a nap. Wishing you better luck in the future.
Bad things do seem to come in threes! Glad your three are over and done! Hope you don’t have anymore bad news for awhile!
You are definitely due for a break! I hope those three wrapped it up.
I like your new blog look that I just noticed (but maybe it’s been this way awhile – I’m a little slow).
The rule of 3 only applies to pregnancy, I think you should take a test.
That is quite a bump on Miss Independent!
I want to run across the country and kick you for that.
NO MORE BABIES.
Woah! I’m sorry but that sucks. Someone needs to buy YOU a Starbucks card.
Ha! Ya know, you are probably right about that Jennie!
PS I’m really sorry your dog is in so much pain.
Awful! Yes, you are done with bad luck. Enough, already! Sending lucky thoughts your way. I do love your pool though (when it’s not leaking).
That sounds like a horrifying week. Ugh! Poor dog, poor Maddie, poor checkbook!!
I hope the week improves for you!
I agree… you totally deserve a break.
Fingers crossed you get it.
I’ve been thinking about you guys all day. I hope Miss Maddie isn’t traumatized, poor thing.
Also: I’m with Poppy. Take a test!
Thank you for the well wishes, but now I need to kick your ass just like I’m going to kick Poppy’s.
I counted 3….I think you’re good!
TILED kitchen floor?
OMG you just gave me goosebumps.
I am SO Glad it was YOU who was home with her at the time, and NOT a babysitter.
Hope everything gets fixed soon! Breaking is no kind of fun.
Awwww, I’m so incredibly sorry to hear of all of this! My heart breaks for poor Jack and sweet Maddie and I’m sending them both (((swift healing vibes))). And as for that pool liner–that totally sucks
Any chance for a repair in time for the summer? I hope this marks the end of the bad luck streak for you guys! XOXO
Awww, that poor baby girl.
I’m gonna say water will be $323
